North West Aerobatics is a UK training organisation delivering advanced flight training primarily with our Extra 300/200 aircraft. We are based at City Airport (Manchester Barton), located in the North West of the UK. We strive to make our training effective and enjoyable - our instructors will make you feel safe, confident and deliver top quality training in an environment that suits your learning style.
Our instructors can also deliver any training you may require in your own aircraft, and we have an in-house SEP Examiner.
We are accredited by the UK CAA, and are a Preferred Training Partner of British Aerobatics, the governing body of Competition Aerobatics.

Our Aircraft
G-TWOO Extra EA300/200
Our aircraft is a meticulously cared for and CAA Certified Extra 300/200. The EA200 is a conventional gear, tandem, carbon winged monoplane capable of Unlimited Category competition aerobatics. Our particular 200 has performance upgrades to the engine and propeller combination to allow a higher maximum continuous power output and benefits from professional tuning of the flight controls for optimum performance.
Safety is our key priority, which led us to choose the Extra over other aerobatic types. The EA200 is certified to +/- 10g (+/- 8g dual). Both cockpits are fitted with double Hooker Harnesses to ensure comfort and safety whilst conducting aerobatics. Weight and balance is not restricted, and we can accommodate taller pilots far more comfortably than in other types.
Our aircraft is fitted with EFIS, engine monitoring systems and modern avionics.
We can deliver any training you may require on this aircraft, and she's our aerobatic introductory/experience flight machine.

G-GULZ Christen Eagle II
The Christen Eagle II is a very pretty biplane capable of Intermediate level aerobatics (+7/-5g). The Eagle II is a development of the Pitts S2 design, with much improved comfort, visibility, speed and aerobatic load carrying capability over the older aircraft. GULZ has a 200hp Lycoming engine mated with a huge 2 blade constant speed propeller and can truely be described as a fun machine and a purist pilot's dream.
The Eagle II is available for aerobatic, upset recovery training and SEP 'instructor hour' trips.

G-CTAB Bellanca Citabria 7GCAA
The vintage tailwheel trainer of our fleet is akin to a classic sports car. She may only have a fixed pitch 150hp, but easily out handles and out performs the 'traditional' Cessna and Piper training aircraft and is capable of gentle basic aerobatics (+5/-2g).
CTAB has exceptional short field performance, perfect for exploring farm strips and fields normally out of bounds. (POH figures - TORR 106m, LDRR 121m at Max Weight).
The Citabria is available for tailwheel conversion/differences training, short field/farm strip flying, 'instructor hour' trips, SEP class ratings, photographic details and self solo hire.
Citabria 7GCAA dual / solo : £165 / block hr (inc VAT)

Our Instuctors

Tony Maxwell
Tony has held a pilot's licence for many years, during which time he has flown for over 2000 hours in a wide variety of light aircraft types, including some he built himself. He has competed in aerobatic competitions at advanced level for over 10 years. He particularly enjoys flying and instructing in the Extra 200 which he says is an ideal aerobatic training aircraft, being extremely strong and easy to fly yet very responsive and capable of flying almost any manoeuvre. He is married and has two grown-up daughters. His other interests include running and skiing.
Rob Barltrop
Rob's day job is in the airlines where he is an Airbourne Base Trainer/Instructor/Examiner on the A320. His particular interest is in Upset Recovery and Prevention Training and holds Advanced UPRT Instructor and AUPRT Instructor Trainer qualifications. However, his real passion is for aerobatics and in particular formation flying. Rob has been instructing in various forms for many years and is our in house EASA SEP examiner. He hopes to bring across some of the modern training methods used in commercial flying to the GA world. Rob strongly agrees with Tony that the EA200 is the perfect aerobatic training aircraft - safe, high performance, polite spin behaviour and most of all fun!
